The warning signs were there from 9/11 in the direction the US was going and even more so when Trump got into power, the EU countries need to stand on it's own feet a lot more and the best way to do that is getting together and pooling resources, otherwise, the likes of Russia, the US and China will continue to play us off each other by keeping us divided and weak. I suspect sooner or later, that penny is going to drop for us Europeans and the irony is, the UK could be the first ones to learn that lesson the hard way with Brexit.

@alexguiness7035 They've got more than enough and beside, it's not really about that and more about the economy and tech that counts in modern warfare, something the EU can do much better if they put their minds to it.

@7mriwantlightning710 Since the end of the second world war, Europe, especially Western Europe have been a lot more tame when it comes to war, some consider that being weak but it's more to do with them living through war and being sick of it. The truth is, the economy is the real deciding factor when it comes to power and where that resource is use, it's not hard from them to push that manufacturing capabilities towards the military if needed, Germany and the US showed how quickly that can happen during the second world war., the EU countries have that but hey choose not to invest into the military but that can change quickly if a real threat arises, but even with how things stand now, Russia would be crazy to take on an EU country, hence why they only make noise and usually with countries that are not in the EU, probably why so many eastern European countries want to join the EU, likely knowing Russia can't touch them then.

@talisikid1618 Not quite, they would just have to shift things about by a few percentage which would have little impact on day to day living and in the case of EU countries, they might go a step further with combining EU militaries if needed, some are already in favour of doing so. As for voting for it, people change their tune on what they vote on depending on need, if Russia or anyone else for that matter became a real threat, you can bet the people will get onboard with changing that threat. For now, Russia isn't really seen as a threat from the EU and US and just a baby throwing it's toys out of his pram because Putin isn't getting his way in Eastern Europe.

If anything, it would be worse for Russia, a more powerful united EU army is I suspect the last thing Russia wants because at least with NATO, Russia can play dividing games. Remember that Russia doesn't care about NATO or the EU, what they care about is playing games with eastern European countries by keeping them weak, an EU united army isn't something that would help Russia.

@justanotherviewer4821 China doesn't care about Russia and are likely using them for it's own political ends and who knows, probably have plans for that land above them as that must be very tempting for them as not many Russians live there. As for the EU, Russia cares a lot about them and it's mainly because the EU is giving eastern European countries something Russia can't, a higher quality of living and stability, all that Russia is offering them is threats, something thats much harder for Russia to do with a EU member, hence why so many Eastern European countries want to join the EU, the irony being, Russia is helping the EU with it's aggressiveness lol, after all, you have to win the hearts and minds of the people, not threaten them lol.

@GoDLiKeKakashi Oh there's always things to whing about and if there isn't, they'll invent something lol. Russia is just getting desperate because the EU is expanding eastwards and improving the living standards of those countries which has a knock on effect on the other countries to want to join, Russia knows that as more countries join the EU, they lose political power over them and that scares the hell out of Putin and the irony is, the EU isn't an enemy of Russia, in fact they could become good friends if we take all the political bs out of it.

@GoDLiKeKakashi Fair enough, but we should remember that Putin being an authoritarian government has a longer term agenda with it's policies and can shape the narrative much better than a democracy can where governments are changing all the time, in a sense, that is an advantage but it can also lead to disaster if the government goes down the right path as there is nothing that can be done to stop it whereas in a democracy, there usually is, hence why it's the most successful system we have for now but it's clearly not perfect and has a lot of flaws. I do agree with you that the US isn't much better but considering where China is heading which are far worse than both Russia and the US, choice for many countries is becoming a lot more limited where it seems like the Europeans in the EU seem to be the ones that are level-headed in all this, probably why some countries like Japan, Canada and Australia wanted to speed up it's talks with the EU on free trade deals to distant themselves a bit from the US and China as the EU is the only other major power left.
