This was bound to happen with the newer leadership, with the last leadership in China, they were slowly doing reforms and opening up, hence the impressive growth rate over the decades, with the new leadership, he's using hard line policies which given time is going to weaken China's economic growth and we are seeing early signs of that already.
Yes Covid is having an impact but let's be honest, growth was starting to slow in China even before Covid, it's the new leadership being too controlling where the real problem is.
Western countries are far more successful because of being more open, having a freer flow of information from top to bottom with its citizens and what we are seeing in China will very likely happen in Russia if they restrict the free flow of information to its citizens, you would think these countries would learn by now that the more open a society is, the more successful they tend to be, if one government fails and people are not happy with them, people can throw them out and bring in a government that creates change, we don't see that in China, if they do a policy and it ends in disaster, they'll likely continue going down that track because of the one party rule.
