One of the first thing I tend to notice on my travels around Europe and America is the quality of the roads in Europe, most are like carpet smooth whereas in the US, it looks like a bomb has hit it.

@colinbrown7947 That argument has been used many times but it wasn't a problem in the past and it's clear that budget cuts on maintaining roads has been going down the last few years, that's where the real problem is. Also even if the size of the country was the problem, there's no reason for inner city areas to look like a bomb has hit it, thats where most of the people are, you would think they would do better on the road network.
