I remember when I was a kid in the 90's, when I was like 10, I felt like I had freedom to go out and explore, even a few miles from where I live without my parents freaking out, I never felt I was in danger at any time and I can't imagine how much worse my quality of life would have been if I didn't have that freedom to go out and explore for my self. The only real conditions I had from my parents is that I don't do any stupid things and that I'm back home by 10pm. The US and Canada had a massive oversight when developing its towns and cities for cars, they overlooked kids freedoms whiles also overlooking people that don't have cars, it also makes it more expensive because everyone needs a car and everything is much further away to get too, it's not really somewhere you would want to live and don't want to bring up kids in a place like that.
