I don't think trade wars have every really worked in the past and I don't see why they would now and if I recall, I think the last time we've had a trade war where both side put tariffs on more then once was in 1930's and we all know how well that happened, ironiclly it was the US that started that too.
Either way, Trump could only win this if the other players like the EU and China didn't put tariffs on US goods but they had to do that because if they didn't, Trump will think he's won and get more aggresive, in other words, tic for tac is the name of the game and we all lose out for it, the problem for Trump and the US is that they stand to lose out the most because the rest of the world is far bigger and they can trade with each other, this isn't what Trump had in mind but clearly Trump doesn't know economics.
We should also rememeber that Trumps tariffs on the EU and US harm a lot of American jobs, then throw in the tariffs the EU and China puts on the US and if other tariffs go on both sides, it's going to really hurt living standards in the long run.
This could also be Trump's hanging moment, if Trump goes ahead with more big tariffs, that could be enough to force him out once it starts to bite into peoples pockets.
Another thing that Trump doesn't understand, the US isn't needed as much as he likes to think, the EU alone is about the size of the US, China is more or less the same and then there is the rest of the world, if Trump keeps pushing, he's going to weaken the US big time at a time the US can't afford that with a rising China.

The real question is, how many of the voters actually knew what they was voting for?, most I got the impressive didn't have much of a clue and voted on fear.
The ironic thing is, Scotland would likely win a vote to pull out of the UK, after that Northern Ireland could be next, and say the UK has the same kind of trade deal with the EU like the likes of Norway or Iceland have, what independents is that when still a lot of the laws will come from the EU and we still give them money, then I have to wonder who the people that wanted out will blame then.
In truth, most of us wasn't informed in what we was voting for and that is a big problem when both sides where slinging mud at each other to see which stick the most, in this case the ones out got that, but really, how is that democracy?, democracy only works if people are informed about what they are voting on.
Personally I think the UK needed out of the EU because I don't think we was going to learn until after that, now those same people will put the blame on other things for the same problems we're likely going to have.

Lol, I suggest you do some research on Norway, for all intent and purpose they are a EU member with little to no say in how things get done, if that's what you want for the UK then the EU would be more than happy with that.
Norway has open borders with the EU, they pay a similar amount of money per capita into the EU pot, they apply most EU laws, for the most part, Norway is a EU member without being in the EU, Switzerland is similar but they did it by bilateral agreements.
I checked up about 6 trade deals that are possible for the UK, every one of them are worse than what we already have, so who in the right mind thought the UK could have their cake and eat it?, never heard of any club giving its benefits without being a member of it, which is what many in the UK thought they could get.
