US peak as a power was probably just after world war 2 with Europe in ruin but Europe rebuilt itself, as for Rome and the US, they are not really comparable, as powerful as the US is, there are many powers in the world and unlike the Romans that for the most part could do almost anything they wanted and was feared by those that knew them, thats not the case with the US, also, Rome compared to what there was around is a lot bigger than the US, I think you would need something like a modern day China in today's world to compare to what Rome was back then and a modern China would be around 4 times bigger than the US in economic terms.
