You do have a point, when it comes to renewables, we are already at times producing more energy than we need at times in some countries, that is likely to happen far more over the coming decades as generating energy is becoming so cheap, whereas storing it is still a problem with it being expensive, so even at 50-70% power, I can see some merit to that, and who knows, maybe they'll find solutions to improve that efficiency, either way, we need a lot of cheap energy storage, so use what ever options that work well, until better solutions in the future are around.
With all that said, I don't know how effective this would be at a small scale for our homes, and looks like a better solution for the grid and for industry use that use a lot of heat.
