At the end of the day, to get around these games that companies and politicians will try to pull, you really have to go gridless, but the problem is with that is that you need a lot of battery storage or a reliable consistent amount of renewable energy being generated each day. I think if you have the space on the roof to put a lot more solar panels than you normally need so you generate enough energy even when conditions are not ideal and have a decent size battery storage, it could work but it won't be cheap.
