The tech shows promise but it's not really practical to use in most applications and mainly because of the life span and efficiency, if they triple the efficiency and bump up the life span to at least 5 years whiles also being quite cheap to buy compared to other solar panel, the tech could work but for now, I think it's best to stick to traditional panels.
Still there could be some applications where it could work already, devices that use very little energy, maybe even things like smartphones, smartwatches and the likes to either top it up so the battery last longer or it could be enough to keep it charged in most cases, after all, if it's really cheap to make and can be used in a practical way, then why not.
I think the real question is, how much better can the tech improve over the next decade or so because we should remember, other renewable energy are getting better and cheaper all the time.
