Even if this works, I think the real problem is that with EV cars and renewable energy, it works well together and eventually will mean free energy for our homes and cars.
That's going to be difficult for any alternative to compete with that, after all, given the choice, we would all rather produce our own energy for our homes and cars as we have more direct control over the price point, which over the long run would more or less be free energy, any alternative needs to match or better that, which this combustion engine, assuming it works at all, sounds like you have to source the energy externally, basically you have to buy it, and I'm sure we know how that will go.
To make it worse, with the advancement of solar tech, it's only a matter of time before it's cheap enough, light enough and can mould into the shape of the entire car, which could produce a lot of the energy if not all of it in summer that the car needs, because of this, I think it's going to be difficult for any of these rivals to compete because renewables and EV's work well together in that it allows us far more control over the production of energy and the price of it.
