I think it's highly likely for a civilization to survive, they should have to be very civilized as they become more advanced as the tech they invent would overtime become more of a threat to themselves if they don't change. We see signs of that here on Earth with humans, as we keep advancing, it's forcing us to become more civilised and we are still a young race, in other words, it's highly unlikely an alien race would see humans as a threat or be hostile towards us unless we was towards them, they would likely just be interested in how we are and how we develop. Personally, I don't think an alien can only advanced to a degree depending on how much they are willing to change and that is likely the case for the human race as well, as in, it's likely us humans will have to become more civilized over the next 100, 200 years if we are to survive, it's possible that most alien races can't make that change and don't survive and that could also be the case for humans as well.
