One in government in the US a few years ago said this of the UK, why the hell would they talk to the UK when they have no influence in the EU any more, that's key because the US is willing to talk to any EU member that has a seat of the table in being able to sway and change thinking at an EU level, even smaller countries than the UK now has more influence simply by having a seat at the EU table. In fact we saw a lot of that in the past with how the UK wanted to be a bridge with the EU and US, now, the US, Russia, China and other powers bypass the UK because we're not really relevant any more, now they just take advantage of the UK because they are an easier target, that's exactly what Putin wanted, the Europeans see that, hence why they are closing ranks together. The irony is, for Putin, the UK being out of the EU might backfire on him in the long run because now the EU doesn't need to get paralysed by the UK when it comes to integration, the UK always had a different vision on the EU than other EU members had and we see that with the difference from British and other European Eurosceptics, so in the short term, it causes the EU harm but in the longer run it could make them stronger, as for the UK, it just causes the UK harm and I don't think the UK will recover from this for decades.
