@donkeylord3517 It depends on how we look at it, when was the last time we had such a wide gap in wealth inequality? I think it was around the times of the Romans before they fell apart, you say the system is working and to a degree it is, but it's leaving way too many people behind and more importantly, the system is working, it's working for the rich elites, we are seeing that now with this pandemic.
If we look at Europe which is more balanced from capitalism and socialism, they seem to be dealing with this a lot better, inequality is far less of an issue, the people feel they are better supported by the system where the US system seems to be braking in throwing Americans under the bus.
Another factor on how we can tell the system is failing a lot of people, look at the leaders being elected in some countries, the US, the UK and so on, these people are only getting in power because people are getting desperate, they want real change and will vote anyone in, in the hope change will happen, the problem is that they are voting for the wrong horse on people that are more likely to screw them over than make things better, hence the mess in the UK and US.
In any case, it will be interesting to see how EU countries and the US rebound from this pandemic because both have taken quite different paths in dealing with it, one is more humain what is going on in Europe where in the US, the system doesn't seem to care about the people.

@SeedemFeedemRobots It's true thought, just look at the UK, the Conservative Party are the right wing party but they are nothing like the Republican Party lol, Labour which is the left wing party and yet in comparison to the Democrats in the US, the Democrats are more like the Conservative Party than Labour Party, but we do have the Lib Dems in the UK which are more to the left even then Labour is.
In the US, the choices are quite limited so it doesn't surprise me that the system screws over the people so much and even the UK doesn't have that much choice compared to many other European countries.
Besides, the left and right of politics is defined by the people, like in the UK, when Tony Blair got into power, he got it by re-inventing the party into New Labour but in truth, it just became more like the Conservative Party which says a lot about the people that keep saying they want change but won't vote for change, same is happening in the US.

The problem with the right and capitalism is that it's leaving too many people behind with inequality and rich and poor but I don't think capitalism is finished, not yet at least but I think thanks to this virus pandemic, it's going to get toned down a lot with a lot more socialism in the system, it will also be very interesting to see the path both the EU and US takes on this because Europe is already better balanced than the US is but I can see it going even more so now.
So what seems to work is a mix of capitalism and socialism in the system, just that over the last few decades, capitalism has taken a bigger slice of the pie and the people are suffering for it, with the virus, that is likely going to tilt the other way, especially once the public feel the hardship of what's about to come.
We should also remember that in Europe, what we call left as a political party doesn't really exist in the US, the Democrats are seen as the left in the US but in Europe they are more or less right wing, the Republican Party is more to the far right to many and we do tend to see that with a lot of the policies they make.
