The problem is in the US at least, they don't really have a left wing party, at least not creditable to vote them in and I know some will say the Democrats are left wing but if you look at them, they are more right wing then the Conservative Party is in the UK which is very much a right wing party in the UK.
The reason this is a problem is because it limits voters choice or more accurately, you have the illusion of choice but it amounts to very little when it comes to real change, it also doesn't help that the US is a very two party system which I've never felt to be very democratic and it tends to create a lot more division among the people with them vs us mentalities and we see a lot of that in the US and even the UK that's a two party system.
If Americans actually had real choice, maybe some real change could happen but until then, I suspect we are going to see the same thing happen over and over with every election, promises of lower taxes and higher spending whiles braking a lot of those promises once the election is won and that cycle continues with almost every election and mostly because you've got the extreme right in the Republican Party and a more moderate right in the Democrat, with that kind of choice, it's no wonder Americans feel their votes amount to little, still the UK isn't much better, you only have to look at the mess of the last 5 years with Brexit to see that lol.
