Why blame the EU for the problem when it's clear that it's some of the members to blame, this has been a problem for some time but it's also a massive opening to go to cleaner energy a lot sooner than expected, so a bit of short term pain for a brighter future, I can live with that.

On the plus side, now it looks like that process will speed up a lot because it's now a security issue, guess who loses out there? Fossil producing nations. Putin has done more here to get us to go to cleaner energy sources then the greens could have ever done, the next 5 years are going to be very interesting, especially in the energy mix in Europe. this is genius that Putin is a big advocate for clean energy, too bad he doesn't realize it lol. Beside, this is going to impact the world because that's how energy prices happen, as the Europeans get their energy from other sources, it bumps up the price on the world market, making it more expensive across the board, that could put a lot more pressure in finding alternative energy sources, that's the real genius part of all this, a bit of short term pain for a big gains in a shorter space of time. What a clusterfuck from Putin to force the Europeans to speed up it's alternative energy plans by decades lol.

@wafflesarebest1702 No one knows how it's going to play out but what I do know is that EU countries are moving full steam ahead to alternative energy sources, that's what happens when energy becomes a security risk. The second world war showed how much progress can happen in a very short space of time, you'll be surprised how quickly things can change when there's a need to change. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see the energy mix in the EU by 2030, in the short term, others around the world will fill that void that Russia losses out on, there will be many takers on that because the EU is a massive market, it's easy money for any that want to fill that void but that's short term as I suspect the EU countries are going to push hard on renewable energy sources. In any case, there isn't really a risk but it's got to be seen as a risk because that is what gets things moving much faster, fear does wonderful things in that sense.

@piotrcurious1131 The good news is, now we have the political and public will to change that, we also have the economy to make it happen, renewable energy could advance more in the next decade than it has in the last few decades, that's what happens when energy becomes a security risk but in the short term, EU countries will fill the void that Russia loses out on by switching on coal plants and other countries around the world filling those needs. But yeah, Putin has probably done more for clean energy with his actions than decades of talks from governments could have done and as we saw in the second world war, a lot of progress can happen in a very short space of time if the need arises.

Maybe thats some eastern European countries or the nordic countries but I've been to many places in western European and I've never seen it get -12c never mind -30 lol.

@Pidalin In the UK, we get around 0-5c, sometimes we get below 0c but usually no less than -5, I can't say much about Eastern Europe but I think they get colder than that but I doubt it's -30, as for Western Europe, the western in both winter and summer tends to be quite mild. As for the t-shirt thing, yep, I'm one of them, I wear them even in winter because it doesn't really feel that cold, at least not to me anyway.

@fischersfritz468 They don't have to extract, all they need to do is fill the void in the short term by looking on the global market, in the short term that pushes up the price for everyone because of how big the EU market is on the globe, longer term the EU countries are going to push hard to become energy independent. What Putin has done here is given a massive shot in the arm to speed this process up by a decade or even 2, in other words, Putin is a Green advocate and he doesn't even know it lol. In any case, of all the countries to threaten, it had to be the European ones which were already more in favour in pushing to cleaner energy sources, now they've got the political, economic will to push hard on that and all because energy has become a security risk, that's probably going to be Putin's legacy, he helped to push cleaner energy sources on the world a lot quicker then they would have been.

Putin has probably done more for clean energy than the greens could ever have done, so yes there is a bit of short term pain but what is going on here is very likely going to kill off fossil fuel a lot sooner than expected and for two reasons, Europeans were among the forefront in wanting to go to clean energy already but now it's become a security issue, thanks to this, we might have knocked a decade or even 2 off the fossil industry, the ones that benefit the most from that are the ones that buy a lot of energy from external markets whereas the biggest losers in this are the ones that produce a lot of that energy. It's going to be interesting to see the drive to clean energy over the next few years.
