It's not so much on if Spain can take Gibraltar, they likely can but would they?, not likely when there are other means of doing that, mostly economic means.
We should remember that the UK was pushed to give up Hong Kong to China, Hong Kong was worth way more then Gibraltar is to the UK, I think Hong Kong have a population of around 8 million whereas Gibraltar is around 60,000.
So it's not about if it can be done or stopped but more of the value of Gibraltar to the UK or Spain, in the case of Spain, they likely have the backing of the EU on side and likely Russia and China and I suspect the US wont care either way.
In the end, I suspect after Brexit, Spain is going to put a lot more pressure on this with the intention of joint ownership of Gibraltar.
I also suspect Argentina will make a move on the Falkland Island with the backing of Russia, the UK will be weaker after Brexit and many around the world will take advantage of that, including the US.
Remember guys, this wouldn't be the UK vs Spain, Spain would likely have the backing of the EU and Russia have an axe to grind with the UK now so Spain knows that Brexit is a big opening for them on Gibraltar.
