It's not so much could they but at what cost? if the US was to invade the UK, they would very likely win but the cost in lives and money would be crazy to not be worth it unless there was a good reason. Also remember, the UK is a modern country, the last war that happened that I can remember with modern countries was world war two and look at what Germany alone did and it's the reason why since world war two, no two modern countries have gone to war with each other as what we saw in world war two, it would likely be a lot worse today because of the level of tech we have now. All wars since then from modern countries have been with countries that can't really fight back and for good reasons as the cost is too high now.
