That's very likely true, as most don't upgrade but replace all in one, so integrated ram isn't an issue for them.
Also, there's no technical reason why the option to add more ram can't happen, but performance will likely be better when using the integrated ram when it comes to the cpu and igpu, the igpu could benefit a lot from that, and also, energy use will likely be lower, but if you do add memory yourself, then you'll have all the overheads you get now, slower performance and higher energy use.
I would love to see beefy APU's with a decent amount of memory integrated into them and see how they perform.
