For me, the 80's was the golden era of music, there was so much good music in just one year then we get in 5 years now.
Also for me, Queen, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and the Beatles are some of the best artest and bands we've ever had and for me what makes them stand out over the rest is that they tried new things out whiles the critics and the press was always trying to bring them down for being so successful but they ware and still are loved by the fans.
Nowadays, we just don't get that anymore, too many of them play it safe and offer nothing new and that for me is why music is crap today, anyway, speaking of the brainwashing, I found it kind of ironic that over the last 10, 15 years that I hardly listen to modern music anymore and anytime I do hear any of it, it really sounds bad compared to what we got in the 60's, 70's and 80's, a lot of the creativeness is gone and it's the same old rubbish song after song today.

@metalmyths3869 I think the real problem is the charts, today we do have good music but most of us don't get to hear it because it's not in the charts, problem is that it's hard to find much of it because there is so much of it around, chart music for me is where it's really bad today.
I don't really have a style of music that I like and very open minded on that front, Queen is a prime example of that, when I was a kid, I didn't think much of the music from them but now I love thier music, I used to listen mostly to pop music and ignored other sytles of music when I was a kid but now I listen to any kind of music thats good.
To be fair, I don't listen to much of todays music anymore and not done for about 10 years now so could be a bit out of the loop but the bits I do hear don't really impress me, for me, it's the music studios thats the problem, much of inderpemdent music is still pretty good but it's much harder to find them.
The playing it safe is something we see from music studios, games publishers and movie studios, most of the creative work now is being done by the ones with far less fans and less money.
