I would love to have a hybrid solar/wind setup on my house but the reality is, solar is winning out, it's a lot cheaper, it's better at producing energy on residential buildings where it's likely to have less winds compared to more open or higher buildings and solar integrates better on the house whereas wind sticks out too much.
There's talk about more homeowners could go gridless over the coming decades, and that wouldn't surprise me at all as renewable tech gets better as well as battery tech gets better and cheaper, if that does happen, that's a major problem for the wind energy industry, unless they can come up with much better and cheaper on-site solutions that actually work at producing a decent amount of energy, they could get wiped out by the solar industry, which is already pulling away because it's more flexible, a lot cheaper and can be used pretty much anywhere.
Wind is fine when it comes to wind farms and big wind turbines, but unless they crack the residential area at a low cost that can produce a decent amount of energy, then I don't see much of a future for wind energy long term as solar keeps getting better and cheaper, especially as more of us will likely want to produce our own energy on-site as the tech continues to get better and cheaper, which for now, wind does a poor job in that area.
