@blahblahblahblah2837 They had the capabilities of doing it but for some reason held themselves back, I even remember where it was said that if it wasn't for slavery in Rome, they had a lot of the core ingredients to start the industrial revolution and it makes me wonder how different the world could be if they did that as I suspect we might be a lot more advanced now, but to be fair to the Romans, this was a world where in the world, change was very slow and almost statics, so they likely feared change even more than we do today or might not have seen a need for change if things worked.
Today we for the most part know better, change happens, it's hard to stop and if done right, change can be better for us all.
I always wonder because at the time and many see Rome as a big source of their wealth and to a degree that is right but I also feel if they didn't have that, they likely would have created a lot more wealth by the need to change, it's like today, if we had mostly free labour, would a lot of the things we invent have happened that makes things more efficient? Probably not.
