I think the problem for Russia is that they've got so far on the wrong side of the west that it's putting Russia more in the pocket of China, I doubt that's a position Putin or the Russian people will want because it puts Russia in a weak position with China having far more power over Russia. We should also remember that as friendly as China is with Russia, they are seeing the situation as an opening to take advantage of Russia whiles they are weak. I think if Russia isn't careful and continues to get isolated around the world, they could end up becoming a vassal of China where they have far more say over things than Russia does, after all, the west actions on Russia is pushing Russia more into the arms of China and going on China's policies around the world, they very likely will take advantage of that. Now the question is, what can Russia do about all this? Honestly, unless the Russian people depose Putin so he can answer for his war crimes and Russia builds its relations and trust with the west, I don't see any other avenue than that, otherwise Russia is likely going to get more isolated for the remaining friends it does have to take advantage of them, it's a very weak position to be in.

  2.  @JohnFenlon  The population and economy of Russia is a lot smaller than China, China holds most of the cards, especially as the west continues to isolate Russia from the world. The question is, do the Russian people really want to be a puppet of China? I highly doubt the government or Russian people would want that but as Russia gets more desperate and the economy goes down the toilet, China will be waiting in the wings to take full advantage of that and we know China will because they've shown many signs of that around the world, Russia for China is just a tool to be used, in this case, against the west but China doesn't care about Russia.

It wouldn't surprise if China makes a move to buy land from the east in Russia, after all, Russia could get very desperate for any aid money from any sources if the west continue to isolate Russia. As much as China doesn't like the west, I suspect they are more than happy to take advantage of Russia's weakness and are probably just buying their time.
