It more or less does, at least in economic terms because there is only so much wealth around, the more evenly divided it is, the better for everyone.
The US is a prime example of that, they like to brag about how many millionaires and billionaires they have but that's actually taking wealth away from the poor and middle classes in the country, hence why the US has one of the highest inequality and poverty rates of developed countries.
Or to put it another way, a video on YouTube explained it best, imagine the wealth of a country is 1 million and say there are 2 people in that country, one has 900 and the other has 100, according to GDP per capita, they both should have the same wealth here, that's what's wrong with this and why you see so much poverty in the US even thought it's supposed to have a higher GDP per capita than many rich countries, it means little when it's in so few hands, hence why Europe and many other developed countries are doing much people, especially for the poor and middle classes.
