Thats the thing many euroseptics don't seem to understand, the shape the EU takes is really dependent on it's members and it's people, the EU can't really do things unless it gets enough support from enough members, many euroseptics make it seems like it's a power on it's own that can do anything it wants lol, it's anything but that, it needs support by enough members to get things done whiles also needing support in the European Parliement.
As for a united Europe, I think it's a great idea considering the history Europe have had for so long, we've had one of our most peaceful times over the last 60 or so years then we have over the last 2000 which says a lot and fair enough that the US and NATO played a part, to me, the EU really played the biggest part when it started out as the Steel and Coal Community, the idea was to tie the members resources together to make it very hard for them to go to war with each other and it worked, the idea of war with any EU member would be unthinkable today.

The EU isn't a country yet but it could become one someday, as you point out, many of the fundermentals are already in place to do that but we should remember that it wont happen unless most of the EU members want that, in any case, the EU only works by repensenting the intrest of the overall EU, it's how it was designed in the first place afterall, no country would give up so much power to the EU otherwise.
Some mistakes have been done over the last 20 years, to me Greece and Italy should not of been allowed in the Euro because they are clearly not ready for that, the eastern EU members that joined should of had it's freedom of movment closed until the economics of each eastern members gets to around 70% gdp per capita of the west EU members, then that would of been far less of an issue.
Most of the other problems the EU members face are mostly down to national goverments then the EU but it's just easier to blame the EU for everything as we've seen the UK do that for decades, also the US which isn't a EU member are facing a lot of the same problems we in the EU face so it's clear the problem isn't the EU but something much bigger, my guess inequality devide, too many people are getting left behind whiles the rich elites get richer and big corparations get away with paying little taxes, I think thats part of the bigger problem, the irony that the EU is one of the few trying to solve that problem.

True, and to me, the rich poor devide really starting to get worse from the early 1980's to now and likely will get worse if we don't get our act together.
Blaming the EU is easy to do but that doesn't solve the problem, a lot of the times the members blame the EU on things the EU doesn't have the power to change because it's in national hands, thats whats crazy about it, in any case, with Brexit, the UK wont be able to blame the EU, all the problems in the UK will be done to the UK and then they might wake up and realise that the EU wasn't the problem to begin with.
In any case, if we really want change, it really needs to be done at a national level, the EU can help on that but it's got limited powers in a lot of areas that are the domain of members, the US which clearly isn't a EU member have a lot of the same kind of problems we are facing in Europe hence why Trump got elected, so things need to change clearly but leaving the EU would likely make things worse for the UK.
