Joining the EU isn't as simply as just turning up to the door and becoming a member, there are so many changes and reforms Ukraine would have to do to be ready for membership that it takes years.
With that said, I think once the dust settles on this conflict with Russia, I think the EU should open talks with Ukraine on membership, I think it's the least they deserve but also be realistic with them and make it clear that how soon or how long it takes for them to join is really up to how quickly Ukraine does the changes needs and not small changes but real big reforms to become a member.
We've seen it time and time again from Turkey that drags it's feet on reforms, hence why they are taking so long on EU membership, we've even seen with Poland and Hungary backsliding on some of the reforms.
What I'm saying, it's not a good idea to let countries in the EU until they are ready with the rule of law, democracy, freedom of the press, rights for the citizens and many other things, if you let a country in the EU too early, there is little incentive for them to do the real changes needed for them to modernize and become a rich country, worse yet, you could get backsliding as we've seen in Poland and Ukraine.
On that note, I do think the EU should open up talks with Ukraine once things settle, give them hope that they can join, I also think them joining NATO would be a good idea with how Putin is being.
