Why would they do such a stupid thing like that? if anything, it should be the other way around because the damage is short term to the EU whereas the damage to Russia is long term.
We're talking about Russia losing access to one of the richest markets in the world right on its door step, on top of that, the EU and US are actively isolating Russia from much of the world.
It would be crazy of the EU to do as you suggest and the moment Putin used energy as a weapon, he lost access to hundreds of billions in revenue from the EU market every year, whiles at the same time, enriching the rival's energy sectors of Russia, after all, there's a big void to fill in the EU market, other countries around the world are licking their lips in wanting to get into that, in other words, Russia's lost is someone else's gain.
The fact of the matter is, the EU market is too big to fail and because of that, other countries will swoop in and take the profits that were going to Russia, in other words, there is a massive opening for other fossil producing nations if they secure energy contracts with the EU and we're talking in the hundreds of billions per year and who ever secures those contracts early on are the real lucky ones because these contracts tend to be long term of like 10 years, that's a lot of revenue over that time, so a lot of these others countries are thanking Putin for being an idiot and opening up that energy market lol.
