Walmart doesn't own Asda any more in the US, they sold up a few years ago.
Not sure why they left, maybe business wasn't doing great for them in the UK or there was too much competition.
In any case, any business doing business in other countries really have to adapt to the local norms if they really want to be successful there, Walmart clearly was trying to push American norms in Germany and other countries and that usually doesn't go down too well for many.
As for that small clip about the unions taking a cut from their pay lol, the entire idea of unions is to get better pay and conditions for the workers, in other words, less unions usually means less pay and worse conditions, mind you, that clip probably came directly from Walmart themselves lol.
Another factor, especially in EU countries, working conditions are a lot better than in the US, Walmart didn't quite seem to understand that.
