To be fair, some companies even in Europe are hard to pin down to which country, like when I was younger, I didn't realise Adidas or Puma were German, I thought they were British or American. There's also the factor of how some companies rebrand themselves in the country they are doing business in, for instance, when I was younger, my friend thought Ford were British lol, many companies do that because they know there's a percentage of consumers that are more likely to buy if they think the product is from their own country, so it doesn't surprise me if that tricks goes on in the US.

Yeah it's more pan-European than any individual country and with the aim of competing with Boeing as none of the individual countries could so they pooled resources together, ESA did the same to compete with NASA, but in space terms, they cooperate on a lot of projects together.
