I'm all for more renewable tech but I can't help but feel that over the coming decades, more and more households and businesses are going to want to go gridless, because most of us like having control over what we generate and use.
With the way renewable and battery tech is developing, it's not hard to imagine over the coming decades that a lot more households will go gridless, because most of us will like to control how much we pay for our energy and being connected to the grid will always give companies an incentive to charge as much as they feel they can get away with whereas gridless could become free energy.
I feel because of all this, solar power is well in the lead as it can be done on a small scale whiles generating a lot of power, wind could also be used but in a lot of ways, it's not suitable for a lot of households, solar also has the advantage of having no moving parts.
Renewable energy is already a lot cheaper than fossil fuels and yet consumers don't seem to benefit from it, gridless is likely going to be the best way to control how much you spend and as the tech is continuing to get cheaper and better, as well as battery tech is getting better, I suspect most consumers will go gridless as the tech allows as that can allow free energy which I doubt being connected to the grid will as the entire grid network needs to be maintained.
