My rule when it comes to gaming is that if it's a triple a game from a big publisher, I only really buy it on sale and around a year or two after release for next to nothing with all the best dlc contents part of it.
Indie games on the other hand I am willing to spend more on them and but them on release because for the most part, thier is more passion on indie games to do a good game whereas big publishers don't really care about the game apart from how much money it makes.
EA is a prime example of that, how many game franchise have they scraped because they messed it up with trying to do something that none of us wanted? it begs the question why any developer would go anywhere near a company like that.
In any case, I get the best of both worlds, I don't miss out on triple a gaming, I just have to wait a bit longer to get it on the cheap with all the dlc and I get to reward indie developers that care about what they are doing and want to make a good game with the money they make on it being a added bonus.
Also, buying into triple a gaming on release and the same for it's dlc contents which in many cases is held back from release to make more money out of people ends up making these games cost around $100, it's a rip off, in fact EA have been caught with the dlc contents on the disk but it not being activated until a later date, contents that should have been part of the game at no extra cost.
