That's kinda how decline happens and usually it's not noticed at the time until it's too late. In the case of the US, I wouldn't say the warning signs of decline are there yet, but the signs are clear to see that the US could implode from the inside out, which ironically, the EU and China could be the ones to benefit the most from if they play there cards right. In any case, the US is showing bad leadership and I think it's going to get worse because Trump isn't just a one-off, the problem is with the American population that's allowing these loons into power, especially among the Republican Party. I'm starting to really think that the more enlighten countries around the world need an alternative to the US and honestly, the only alternatives there are the EU and China, and in the case of China, they are a poor choice for most, and the EU has potential if the countries in the EU get there act together and start working more as one, and until then, I think the world is going to become more unstable mostly thanks to the US and Russia, which China is likely going to take advantage off.

With the US going off the rails and with a rising China, it's not looking good when it comes to the more enlighten countries that are democracies. We really need an alternative to what the US and China are offering and honestly, the only credible alternative I see is the EU, but the EU countries need to get their act together and fast with working much closer together in key areas. In any case, what's going on in the US becoming less democratic and China rise doesn't bold well for the other democracies around the world as I suspect there's going to be pressure from both the US and China for these systems to change, especially on the social systems and workers rights, which both the US and China have a bad record on and both will likely want to weaken the systems in other countries to benefit their own corporations and unless the EU gets its act together, I don't see anyone else that can stop it.

@Browe2546 Yep, Canada is in a far worse position, probably why they are trying to divert trade from the US towards the EU because the US is using trade as a political weapon, which makes them far less reliable. With that said, Australia is not in a good position, with a rising China and being so close to the US, which is becoming less reliable, things don't look good for either Canada or Australia unless they can find alternative trading partners.
