We did the same in our house in the UK because of the invasion in Ukraine, and the results have been solid, even though we had one of the coldest winters on record of -9C, we rarely needed to use the heating and even when we did, it was for a short amount of time.
Normally the temperature where I live is anywhere from -5C to 0C in winter, with either of those, we don't need heating at all and it feels comfortable indoors.
Insulating and smart buying when buying products that use less power to do the same thing is the best way to reduce our bills and in my case, there is still quite a bit more we can do from solar power, to heat pumps and a few other product replacements to reduce our footprint.
In the end, there are a lot of things we can do to reduce our energy needs without lowering the quality of living, and by doing so, you either keep energy bills stable or you can lower them, and I feel once renewable energy gets to a good enough state with the battery tech to back them up, many of us could go independence of the grid.
