Yeah, that's my conclusion, but I'm hopeful that with all the creative ideas going around, someone will crack the urban small turbine that can generate meaningful energy for a home.
Until then, it makes more sense to just oversize a solar setup with how cheap it's getting, and I think the wind industry needs to find solutions for wind turbines to work at small scale in urban areas, because it's likely as tech advances, more of us are going to want to go gridless, which for now is a massive advantage in favour of solar power over wind power.
In any case, if we can get a mix of solar and wind that works well for home users, that would be a game changer as both would complement each other for more consistent energy generating throughout the year, it would allow far more of us to go gridless and it could reduce the amount of energy storage needed if we are getting a more consistent flow of energy from solar and wind.
