There are a lot of ideas of small scale wind turbines that are being worked on around the world that could work at a local level on your home, but until we start seeing real evidence of them working that actually produce meaningful energy and are also cheap enough to compete with solar, then I don't see much of a future in wind power long term.
The reason for that is because as solar becomes better and cheaper, more of us are going to want to provide our own energy at a local level, probably off grid, which reports are going around that around 40% of European homes in the EU could go gridless by 2026, which is earlier than I expected, if most of us go gridless, it would save a fortune on not having to maintain the grid network and would be a major problem for wind power unless they find solutions that can work well enough in urban areas.
I'm hopeful that solutions will happen, but it's taking too long and they are too expensive, solar on the other hand is marching ahead, it's getting cheaper at a rapid rate, it's getting better, and can be used almost anywhere, hence the reason why solar is getting far more investment, but I'm grateful that a lot more small scale wind turbines are being worked on, they would complement solar really well, being that winds tend to be stronger in winter and at nighttime when solar is weaker, the two could allow for a more consistent amount of energy generated, especially if you have enough battery storage as a buffer.
