Wasn't this the idea of why the German government wanted the Tesla plant there? To light the fire under the arse of the German car industry, as a lot of the old guards are being too slow to change, which will be costly if they don't get a move on. Basically, Tesla being there is to put pressure on the German can industry with the intention of saving them before It's too late and they lose too much ground which is pretty smart of the German government because the car industry around the world have been dragging their feet on electric cars for decades, they can't afford to keep doing that if Tesla races ahead. I suspect over the next decade, we're going to get some big movements from the traditional car industry into electric cars just to survive and the German ones could be the lucky ones that are force to adapt sooner rather than later thanks to Tesla putting pressure on them right in their backyard.
