There's only really once peaceful solution, that's for Russia to withdraw for all of Ukraine, including Crimea.
We all know that Putin isn't going to go for that deal, so more arms for Ukraine, with the intention of dragging the war out for so long that the cost to Russia is so big that many will wonder, was it worth it.
It's unfortunate for but I get the impression, that that's the intention of the US, they basically want Russia to bleed so much over a long draw out war that they'll think twice about doing another.
We should remember that the west can continue this war more or less indefinitely with minimal impact to their economies, whereas for Russia, it's very costly over the long run, the simple truth is, the west and especially the EU and US, drawls Russia in economic terms, so the impact to the west is minimal, hence why the west doesn't really listen to Putin's threats, in fact, it looks like the west in planning on ramping up shipments of arms later this year.
So the question is, how much pain are the Russians going to put up with on the cost of this war? Because the longer it drags on, the more costly it will be and that will have a direct impact on the Russian economy and people.

Putin has been threatening with nukes for almost 3 years now, if anything, the more threats from Putin and co, the more desperate Russia is coming across from the west, especially if you don't follow through on those threats, which Putin knows he can't, because if he even thinks about using nukes, his position of power could crumble very quickly, either by his own inner circle killing him or the Russian people rising up to depose him.
This is why all he can do is threaten but never follows through, he's not in a position to do so and the threats are supposed to intimidate the west in not supporting Ukraine, the irony being is that the more Putin threatens, the more the west supports Ukraine, basically showing how little they think of his threats.
