I suspect that might be part of the reason Americans are finding it more difficult to accept this compared to say the Europeans which don't like how things are but accept things for what needs to be done, at least for the most part. I also get the impression in the US that because of the weak social system in place which isn't doing enough to protect workers and wages like we see in Europe, it's causing more problems in the US, a lot of us in Europe don't like how things are but we understand for the most part what needs to be done, a lot of us in Europe are seeing this as a long extended holiday whiles being paid for it and even thought we know hard times are likely coming after the dust settles, what are the alternatives? We just go out and countless lives get lost? it's a bad situation we are all in but we have to make the most of it until things settle.

@miss_typo_a_lot Very true, I always find it amusing when in the US they seem to think lower taxes is good and to a degree it can be but overall it makes things worse for the Americans because lower taxes just means more wealth going into fewer hands and it always rises to the top elites because most of the public are not very good with money. So even thought the US has some of the lowest taxes in the developed world, they also have some of the highest poverty and inequality of the developed world, that speaks volume of a system that isn't working that well for the many and likely the reason why the likes of Trump got elected in the first place because people are not happy with how things are and want change, now contrast that with countries up north of Europe, they have some of the highest taxes in the world and yet have some of the highest standards of living in the world, higher taxes is not a bad thing as long as it's balanced, higher taxes likely mean a better distribution of wealth among the poor and middle classes.

He's hitting the nail right on the head here, yes the economy going down the toilet is likely to create hard times but what do we value more, our lives or the economy? Personally, I value lives because the economy can be rebuilt, lives can't if we are six foot under. So as much as there is a balancing act on protecting lives and the economy, I'll go for lives every time even if it does mean some hard times ahead. There is also the factor that others are a risk to others and that takes the choice out of it when dealing with a virus, some people might not care about the risk and want to go to work, but they become a much bigger risk to others that do care and that is where the real problem is and why a full on lock down is needed, at the end of the day, what is the alternative, we all just go back to work so countless others die in the process? That would likely cause more chaos because a lot of people are scared and don't want to be pushed into something that can threaten their lives.

@TeiRen2012 You would think it would be common sense, the natural care we show friends and family and doing that for the overall good of the community as everyone stands to benefit. It will be interesting to see how things change once the dust settles on this virus because I expect a lot more social changes to come about in Europe, I'm not sure about the US yet because too many in the US seem to think there is a conspiracy or something going on with this virus and don't want to accept it for what it is, that likely could make real change harder to happen there because rampant paranoia is taking over in many areas.
