Competition was always going to happen in a market where there's a lot of demand, and especially with how greedy Nvidia have been getting, they were asking for new companies to pop in and pull the rug from under them, and that's likely going to be specialised chips just for A.I.
What's really needed is some kind of add on chip for the desktop market, there is a lot of potential in that market but the likes of AMD, Nvidia and Intel are not likely going to give us gpu's with enough memory to be that useful for big A.I. at least not at a reasonable price point.
Even the next gen gpu from Nvidia for the consumer market might have 32GB for the top tier gpu, that might sound good on paper but it's way too low for big A.I. and even then, it will cost an arm and a leg, gpu memory isn't that expensive, if we actually got on current line-up's of gpu's, 64 or 128GB options, that would be a game changer, but they won't do that for a decent price point, so roll on the specialised A.I. chips.
