@John-hu9qg It doesn't need it, it just prefers it as it's cheaper and closer, but EU countries could buy it's gas and oil from other places around the world if Russia plays too many games, after all, the US has wanted to sell to Europe for quite some time, there are lots of options but the problem is that it would push up the price on the world market so everyone else would complain, but then they can take it out on Russia lol.
The fact of the matter is, it's not in Russia's interest to cut oil and gas to Europe for a number of reasons, one it would hurt the Russian economy a lot, two it would brake a lot of trust, not just with the Europeans but with the rest of the world because nobody is going to want to do business with Russia if they did that and 3, Europe would just buy it's oil and gas on the world market and push it's renewable energy drive harder, in the end, it's Russia it would hurt the most and lets be blunt about this, if Russia ever did that, it would spill over into other areas, Europe would play games with Russia on access to a lot of other techs and I'm sure you know the US would be more than happy to join the party.
This is why Russia threatens but never really follows through, they like to play games but thats about it.
