Religion is always a weird thing to me, people's belief in it can be absolute, based on no evidence whatsoever and yet, when you look at the evidence, a lot of countries around the world with a high percentage of religion, tend to be poorer countries and this is even the case with regions in countries, so like the US with some southern states or Italy's south, the pattern always seems to be the same, the more religion, the more poverty, whereas you look at countries with less religion, they tend to have some of the highest quality of living in the world.
I really do wonder how well would the south of Italy do if it was it's own country or those US states that are more religious do if they were not part of the US, I bet they would be a lot worse off now.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with religion as long as it's not pushed onto other people, but come on people, we are in the 21st century, religion has no really place in today's world, but in any case, the best way to kill religion is to modernize the world, religion tends to feed on poverty, desperation and inequality in society, we've seen that in the EU where countries that join the EU, religion becomes less important as the wealth of that country grows.
In any case, if you look at the countries with the highest quality of living, they tend to be countries that have less religion.
