The thing is with democracy, it's only really effective if the public shows enough interest in what's going on, sadly, not enough people do in the western world and because of that, the public are easy to manipulate by politicians and the media. Politicians are usually always power hungry, if the public doesn't keep them in check and democracy gets weaken or worse yet, we end up with a dictatorship, we only have ourselves to blame and ultimately, the public needs to show more interest in what's going on in the political world and need to do more research in getting to the truth and not the bull, also more of the public need to turn out to vote because not enough are and Trump and Brexit is a warning sign, both to politicians to listen to the people and to the people to start waking up and show an interest in what's going on. We like to think we're living in a democracy and always will, democracies can easily change and can end if we are not careful so yes, things need to change, both from politicians and the people.
