War fair today isn't really about how many troops you have, it's about the level of tech you have that really matters, 300 hundred thousands seems too many for a country like Poland with it's economy and population size and I think they would be better putting more of that resources into higher tech military equipment whiles also integrating more into the EU plans on military matters. Either way, it doesn't matter as much because it's one thing for Russia to attack Ukraine which by the way is quite poor even compared to Poland, it's another thing to attack an EU and NATO country and especially with the EU because of how that was formed after the second world war to prevent war among it's members, in other words, unlike NATO, an attack on an EU member would more or less force the other members to get involved in a more forceful way because of how tightly integrated these countries are, so an attack on one EU member would be an attack on all, even Russia would have to be crazy to do that. NATO is a good idea on paper but it's not tested, the countries involved that are not really linked together that well, so we don't really know if they would respond if a NATO member gets attacked, the EU on the other hand, they would have no choice but to respond and all thanks to the Steal and Coal Community that was set up after the second world war that ties the members economies tightly together.

There's a reason why so many eastern European countries want to join the EU, they know that is a safe haven from the likes of Russia, after all, it would be a bold move for any country to attack an EU country with how integrated they are and honestly, it would be safer to attack a NATO country then a EU one because NATO is an organization that has little in the way of integration among it's members whereas the EU members have a lot, that counts for a lot when it comes to responding to an attack.

@williamdavis9562 There are many reasons why many want to join the EU, security, stability, wealth and countless other benefits. Just look at Poland and Hungary, imagine if they were not an EU member, how quickly they could slip into being a puppet of Putin and become an authoritarian government just like what Russia have now, them being inside the EU puts a lot more pressure for them to get back on track with democracy, Putin ironically has really helped with his actions in Ukraine. Basically, joining the EU offers a much faster track in becoming a modern country whiles also offering the stability and security to invest in those countries, hence why EU membership is far more important to them than NATO membership is.
