This is why the EU countries need to work as one with more integration and one voice, I bet if the EU had a single army and Ukraine asked them to help, the EU could have put 20,000 or 30,000 troops in Ukraine as peacekeepers before the war started, that would very likely have been enough to prevent war because it's one thing to attack Ukraine, it's another to attack when you have an EU or even US troops in Ukraine.
As for the US, well lets be blunt about this, they don't really care what happens in Europe, I know some like to think they will come to the rescue but they seem to only care about self-interest and only seem to care when it starts to impact them, now I'm not saying the EU countries are angels but with them being much closer to Ukraine, they likely would have to intervene, problem is with the EU, it's powerful on the economic front but weak on the political front because each member is doing it's own thing, if the EU speaks with one voice, had a single army, I suspect this invasion of Ukraine wouldn't at happen and a big part of why it happened is the division in the EU countries, we're pretty much fighting among ourselves in what action to take and Russia is taking advantage of that, it's high time the EU countries start to work much closer together and see where the real threats are because if the western response is weak on Putin, he won't stop with just Ukraine.
