New Urbanism is NOT the alternative to sprawl!
3
Autonomous cars will reduce the need for parking along with e-commerce will change the game
2
Both beat streetcars or BRT with car traffic on both sides! None beat personal or group rapid transit
2
I’m sorry but these folks presenting these urbanist channels are so emasculated
2
Disagree with the open space preserve areas. Not all new development on the fringes are harmful. Also CA makes it very difficult to build infill compared to Las Vegas, Dubai, Miami and NYC.
2
Asians?
2
watchinginaz Not much to offer for close to 5 million
2
The elephant in the room is “Stroads” which are major collector arterials
2
@mardiffv.8775 Not as stretched as other urban areas in the US. It is the 5th densest in the nation. It is mainly the layout of land uses and roadways. The main problem is that the places of shopping, dining, hangout, and working are not so compatible with residences.
2
Good point.
2
@ lax codes and approvals
2
@DaniMrtini We only use a tiny minority of the Colorado River. Most goes to agriculture. Indoor farming will change the game
2
Why even live there?
2
@cmdrls212 So no walking from Fall to Spring? What about umbrellas, neck coolers?
2
What is even more disgusting is that LA is more dense
2
You forgot car sharing services such as ZipCar
2
@donleondevillafana7615 Sure sounds good. How can I get started?
2
Okay then we must try a different system of planning like Cyrus Planning. See my channel! We must avoid Sprawl and Smart Growth
2
Tell me about it. However we must personal rapid transit.
2
Density isn’t the main factor. It’s layout of buildings, land use and traffic flow
2
You didn’t explain how mass Latino and Asian immigration caused more sprawl
2
We alternatives to New Urbanism and Smart Growth
2
You don't need gated areas to do that. Besides they do not even address the heart of the problem.
2
Land use, traffic and building layout is the main problem. Not the density or spread out growth
2
Not true mainly. Building, land use and traffic flow layout are more important. Boston, Chicago and NY are less dense than LA but less car dependent on average
2
This guy is so emasculated like other channels!
2
Depends on the public transit. Personal rapid transit and Maglev: YES
2
Never knew that. Wow!
2
Reason: other states like CA have high taxes and poor politics where this emasculated soy boy supports
2
Public employee cartels?
2
Transit has to compete with cars like personal rapid transit and Maglev not light rail and bus
2
I live 8 miles away. This was pushed by a Reid HUD Grant
2
You can thank Will Smith’s song!
2
Intersection times are too long. Need underground travel and roundabouts/ramps. One of the reasons for poor transit is due to poor planning and lobbyists.
2
And south of San Clemente is open for a few miles before you hit Oceanside.
2
I prefer Miami or Atlanta
1
Good question. Highways can run at lower speeds and often easier to exit and enter. Expressway is just a lesser capacity than a Freeway I guess
1
Mass immigration leads to sprawl
1
PHX is just an enlarged Palm Springs type suburb of LA
1
Why even like in Phoenix?
1
Jonathan Maranville CA high cost, Rustbelt economy and other places not as good. Why not Las Vegas?
1
watchinginaz And it’s an overrated area
1
@judevientos what is true?
1
@watchinginaz I live in Las Vegas. Our climate beats yours
1
@watchinginaz In July there is only a few degree difference but humidity levels differ too. The winters have a 10-15 degree gap. Phoenix gets more 100s making Las Vegas the better climate
1
@watchinginaz Other industries would have come by
1
@Riorozen Where did I mention that? I am not car-free! Only certain designated areas.
1
@MiaTheodoratus ok
1
Most of the water doesn’t go to the area
1
High cost?
