  3.  @pederpersenfostvedt2900  It was actually both. Transit could have innovated to compete as well. Population density does play a role but land use layout and street design are more important. Housing subdivisions, strip malls, collector roads aren’t helping even if all of the housing was attached.

  5.  @roteschwert  Partially. It was also zoning laws, new codes, FHA and Wall Street lending standards, White flight, and Interstate Highway System. The issue isn’t low density. It is layout of streets, buildings and traffic flow

  8. Not true mainly. Building, land use and traffic flow layout are more important. Boston, Chicago and NY are less dense than LA but less car dependent on average

  10. Good question. Highways can run at lower speeds and often easier to exit and enter. Expressway is just a lesser capacity than a Freeway I guess
