@timothybolshaw u forgot one detail, russia's size. When u have populations spread out in a vast territory but in low numbers, u have to subsidize cause market to sell there isn't attractive. The far east zones are dependant on this, that's how moscow keeps control. No money, no subsidies, no bread sale, no control - - - what do u think happens next?

It's a snow ball effect - less economy (shrink by 4% just in 2022) plus increse military spending (its not investment hence lost money minus military complex as it is industry) = disruptive finances cause budget loses equilibrium which means more economic shrinkage which means even more disruptive public budget etc. This can already be seen in duma where they are discussing fines for improper handle of manure (fishing for fines to finance public budget). They are absolutely in the early stages of the snow ball and it's getting bigger.

@timothybolshaw not irrelevant because politicians are the ones snatching those subsidies (its about control not the people), and those without pay won't be cooperative and those are the ones to amass support. Just the idea of not having those funds available to snatch has already put some republics representatives sending letters, making disruptive statements etc. No money--- no control--- to big of a territory and it's consequences.
