If West accepted Donbas being part of Russia it might put them in better situation to require Arab states to accept Israel. Why deny Arab states their right to reject historical Partition Plan if they themselves reject Russia’s and Donbas’ citizens’ claim to be seen as part of Russia?

@altergreenhorn Well Israel might argue that it owned the land until the Romans caused its Diaspora in 70 AD. After 1500 years of living there. Interesting that during the last half of its 2000 year diaspora, Kiev was its main city. So there is a major link. But politically speaking, Ukraine claims against Donbas going to Russia are based on Galician nationalism, while Arab claims against lands of Palestine going to Israel are based on Arabian nationalism. So there is a political and ideological strong comparison.

@altergreenhorn Didn’t Russia get its name from Kievan Rus, rather than the other way around. And Kievan Rus was characterised by taxation system in the area, perhaps even since Ancient Greek times, (possibly a system called Rus) later, as it happened, enforced by Jews in times leading up until the Middle Ages. Also, Jewish communities in Kievan Rus were well-established long before the modern Russian state came into existence. So it is complex. Jewish claims to land of Israel are quite simple in comparison.
