Clown world: you may laugh, but twenty years ago when I was working on modernising local government in the UK and introducing the internet as a tool in one large local authority, later a pilot for the wider UK public sector, we had to assess the risk of losing the internet. We had to think how we might revert to paper invoices and orders and we put in place a principle that we would never do anything where we could not revert to paper and our old practices. So yes, carbon copying, comptometers, old style computers, microfilm, all those kinds of things are a necessary fall-back in case the internet is lost and even maybe electricity. I would recommend, laugh all you like ( :) ) , that people in all sectors, public and private, consider how to do simple things like layout an invoice, keep a track of the calendar (yes today is 4th ! :) ) and maybe even print out some important helpful material onto something durable like plastic sheets, such as a ten year calendar and log tables and the like. It might help a generation, perhaps the next one, to survive the loss of knowledge and keep civilisation going if this whole disaster movie escalates.
