Maybe I’m wrong, but the long-range UK missiles are launched from aircraft so to defend their homes of civilians the Russians need to ensure air superiority, so the Patriot systems must go.

@john to intercept long range missiles once launched? Ideally they would want to prevent launch in first place by dominating the airspace so planes carrying the missiles cannot take to the skies

@john If so, I suppose any aircraft that can be fitted with a pallette launch system can launch them or launch JDAM missiles or the like, dropping them out the back of the plane on a pallette with a parachute. All the more reason for Russia to ensure air dominance and that would involve eliminating patriot systems, which would be high on the list and worth the millions a hypersonic missile costs

@john Boeing makes the JDAM-ER that can be dropped from the palletized airborne launch systems

@BRMCX69 I don’t think they would want to spread the war outside of Ukraine like that. Article 5 would not protect them if they launched attacks from NATO countries. Russia would legally be entitled to attack those countries in self-defence. But it might indeed go this way sooner or later.

@john you mean a Palletized Load System?

@john or Lockheed’s Rapid Dragon?

@john are you saying the UK’s long range missiles could be, are being launched from palletised airborne launch systems?

At 100, dear old Kissinger won’t need to see the outcome of his new advice. Not really a good recommendation to heed it.
