@BernardMcCarty And what if both of them used these prompts to train GPT 5 or 6? By the time there was a GPT 7 it would be of little use to humans and nobody would know what it did and whether it was generating errors. But by then many humans might be out of knowledge-jobs and this in turn would discourage young people from training in the skills needed for those jobs. So for a while humans would tolerate this and depend on GPT 7, just risking it out of convenience or necessity. Then humans would go back to square one, scrap the GPT and AI development (or pause it before it reached this point), and have to reinvent a lot of skills from scratch (if by then older generation and teachers were gone or moved on).

I expect AI will soon start to develop communication unintelligible to humans, and we will lose interest or something like that will act as retarding effect. A bit like Tower of Babel but just through the effects of how AI works. It will start to use AI-generated training, then it will find more input it understands from what humans have not written.

@BernardMcCarty I guess this idea of the universe being software or a simulation is part of this philosophy. There is something to it. There is also the thinking of Pythagoras about the universe being mathematical (thinking of later students who wrote it down, at least). The concept of cosmic ledger and the Stoics philosophies and Heraclitus and later Philo about the Logos seems to have a lot in common with Deutsch.
